The Schmidt AI in Science Fellowship Core Facility Team partners with the AI in Science Schmidt Fellows across the full lifecycle of their research software, from early design decisions to preparing code for public release. The program’s Research Software Engineer collaborates directly with Fellows to review codebases, define sustainable development practices, and deliver improvements focused on quality, reproducibility, and long-term maintainability. Together, we work to ensure Fellows’ software is open source, well-documented, and built to support the next generation of AI-driven science.

The Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Fellowship at the University of Chicago is a postdoctoral program that trains cross-disciplinary scholars to advance and accelerate the adoption of AI in the natural sciences, offering them the freedom to pursue original research, collaborate across multiple groups, and engage with partners like Argonne, Fermilab, and the Marine Biological Laboratory.
